Public event: “How Local Agency Reshapes China’s Influence in Central Asia and Beyond”

The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and CAPS Unlock invite you to a public panel discussion exploring how local agency shapes China’s overseas footprint.

🗓️ 20 October 2026
🕘 09:30–12:00 (Almaty time, UTC+5)
📍 In-person in Almaty + online (Zoom)

The discussion will examine a more dynamic interaction, where local regulations, public sentiment and state bargaining power can shape how Chinese state-owned enterprises, private investors and diplomats operate in the region. The panel will also place Central Asia in conversation with Latin America, Southeast Asia and the Middle East to explore how Chinese strategies and Beijing’s toolkit are evolving across different geographies.

Venue details and Zoom link will be available upon confirmation of registration no later than October 17.
