The Argument is a CAPS Unlock series of short policy essays, each built around a single, debatable proposition. Each piece identifies a specific problem, assumption, or policy trend and argues that it is being misunderstood, overlooked, or approached incorrectly.
Contributions are evidence-based and written for policymakers, practitioners, and informed readers outside the researcher’s immediate field. The format is intentionally short: authors are expected to state a position and defend it, rather than survey a topic.
The series is a venue for CAPS Unlock researchers and outside contributors to put forward original findings on Central Asia in persuasive form, and to make the case for why those findings should change how a given issue is understood.
